"In The Hand"

We started Galahad today on a lunge line - and all went pretty well. Still just a walk/trot - and still with his head up instead of down and in. We also put on the side-reins at position 5 - which he didn't like.

Second step - working "in the hand". First time I've tried this - but with Karen's help, we walked back and forth along the back fence with one rein pulled over his head and one hand on the bit. He did it - but not with good forward motion.

We also did something new - Karen lunge while I sit in the saddle - no reins, no stirrups, nada. It worked ok (still not great forward motion) until I pushed it and tried to put my arms up. Galahad jumped to the side (helmet, Jennifer!) - BUT I must say, he did just two little jumps, I stayed on, and we worked thru it. It was a good experience for both of us – for me that I won’t fall off each time he jumps, and for him, that I won’t fall off each time he jumps (we both stress over that).

I think we do the same routine a few more times and see where we are.
