The pacing continues...

Yesterday - I took out Dancer and walked her around a bit. We did a few longe circles at the end of a lead line. She did ok - except for the halt. At least, she walked.

She did do some pacing yesterday in the field though. Galahad ran her off a few times. I will be happy when she finally settles in and dosen't feel the need to pace.

"In The Hand"

We started Galahad today on a lunge line - and all went pretty well. Still just a walk/trot - and still with his head up instead of down and in. We also put on the side-reins at position 5 - which he didn't like.

Second step - working "in the hand". First time I've tried this - but with Karen's help, we walked back and forth along the back fence with one rein pulled over his head and one hand on the bit. He did it - but not with good forward motion.

We also did something new - Karen lunge while I sit in the saddle - no reins, no stirrups, nada. It worked ok (still not great forward motion) until I pushed it and tried to put my arms up. Galahad jumped to the side (helmet, Jennifer!) - BUT I must say, he did just two little jumps, I stayed on, and we worked thru it. It was a good experience for both of us – for me that I won’t fall off each time he jumps, and for him, that I won’t fall off each time he jumps (we both stress over that).

I think we do the same routine a few more times and see where we are.

First Kiss

The meeting between Galahad and Dancer went smooth as silk today. They seemed to be friends right from the start. They are so beautiful in the field together!

Big weekend

Tomorrow RA moves to his new home. I'll try not to cry (too much..)
Sunday, Abby comes here. We are thinking about calling her "Wind Dancer" or dancer for short... I think I like it!

Gilbriar Abilene

When we went to see "Abby" last weekend, the wind was about to blow us all away! We attempted to longe her, but that didn't work for me (Karen seemed to have a better handle on that).

We took her back into her pen, and put a big western saddle on her, and she seemed to be fine with the whole experience.

They say she has good breeding, we know she definatly likes the treats!

The "perfect" ridding buddy

The world changed when I discovered there was a "Karen" in it.

Karen and I met thru a group that I started near our homes for "mommies". I put out a notice that I was in need of someone to ride a horse (RA) while I attempted to ride my "wild" arabian, Galahad.

Karen jumped at the chance... and so it began....

Horse training, horse ridding, talking about horses, reading about horses, grooming horses, cleaning the barn... and then, our big adventure, a young arabian to train together.

Sir Galahad

I got Galahad from my friend and former boss, Renee. She had given me my first horse "SB" (Santa Barbara) - who passed away a year ago. Galahad was trained as a colt, but then lived alone in a field for 7 years before coming to stay with me. I didn't spend much time with him the first year, truthfuly, I was scared of him. But, the time came, where I was forced to learn to handle this "crazy" arabian - and no surprise, he is as sweet as can be. We seem to be forming a unique bond.

So, the training begins!
